gh3 wins two 2026 governor general’s medals, one for O-day’min Park Pavilion, the other for Windermere Fire Station, both in Edmonton. This brings gh3’s total GG medal wins to 7.
gh3* founding principal Pat Hanson has been named the recipient of the 2026 RAIC Gold Medal.
As the highest honour bestowed by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, the Gold Medal recognizes an individual’s lasting, significant contribution to the fabric of Canadian architecture.
For over three decades, Pat has championed a practice that deliberately dissolves the traditional boundaries between architecture, landscape, and urban infrastructure. From chemical-free public pools to expressive stormwater facilities, her vision elevates traditionally overlooked civic typologies into striking, ecologically responsible landmarks.
In their official citation, the RAIC jury noted:
"Pat Hanson has made a unique and sustained contribution to contemporary Canadian architecture. As founding principal of gh3*, she has seamlessly integrated architecture, landscape, infrastructure, and urbanism, while advancing an ethic of environmental responsibility, civic generosity, and design excellence."
Beyond the studio's built environment, this honor celebrates Pat's decades-long dedication to mentorship, education, and professional advocacy—continually pushing the boundaries of what Canadian architecture can achieve.
