gh3 designs in the increasingly complex realm where architecture, urbanism + landscape overlap. We design with a modernist's eye to order, beauty and social possibility, and an environmentalist's awareness about sustainability and long-term thinking.

gh3 is featured in this year’s Wallpaper Architects Directory, for which each selected firm designed a speculative residential project on a rural site. From Wallpaper:

Pat Hanson and Diana Gerrard set up GH3 in 2006, bringing together their respective disciplines of architecture and landscape architecture. ‘Finding the unique identity of a site and translating that into built form is the essence of all our projects,’ they say. Their holiday house was designed for the ‘agricultural expanse of southern Saskatchewan’. Serving as a counterpoint to the area’s relentlessly flat topography, the house was designed as a bold, geometric object, ‘enclosed between soaring crops and the dark earth’. Arranged around a central courtyard, the house is clad in an ‘oxidising skin to record the toll of the often harsh prairie weather’

Here’s an excerpt from Alex Bozikovik’s story on House 60:

When Granovsky first bought the house with her husband in 2007, it was a red-brick ’50s dwelling with low ceilings and a cut-up floor plan. Charging GH3′s Pat Hanson with a fresh start led to a quick and decisive process (two months of design and nine months of construction) that would transform the building beyond all recognition.

Finn O’Hara, who photographed the cover image, also produced a time-lapse of the photoshoot:
