gh3 featured in Wallpaper’s Architects Directory

Model of gh3's Wallpaper House

gh3 is featured in this year’s Wallpaper Architects Directory, for which each selected firm designed a speculative residential project on a rural site. From Wallpaper:

Pat Hanson and Diana Gerrard set up GH3 in 2006, bringing together their respective disciplines of architecture and landscape architecture. ‘Finding the unique identity of a site and translating that into built form is the essence of all our projects,’ they say. Their holiday house was designed for the ‘agricultural expanse of southern Saskatchewan’. Serving as a counterpoint to the area’s relentlessly flat topography, the house was designed as a bold, geometric object, ‘enclosed between soaring crops and the dark earth’. Arranged around a central courtyard, the house is clad in an ‘oxidising skin to record the toll of the often harsh prairie weather’

Living Wall For Thompson Residences

Render of living wall

gh3’s first built example of a vertical planted form will be completed in the fall of 2011. Installed at the entry level of the Thompson Residences, the aim of the design is to produce a unique, independent structure that distinguishes itself from the architecture of the building.

Wireframe of form

CNC-milled foam slabs are secured to two columns . The sculptural structure is equipped with a rainwater irrigation system to sustain the sedum and moss plantings.
